This Chinese giant is expected to top sales of US$30 billion in 2009 and has grown rapidly to become the world’s third-largest telecommunications equipment supplier this year.

Huawei exports to more than 100 countries, has one billion users and generates 75 percent of its income outside China.

The networking vendor has been dogged by controversy in recent months, as Australian media reported it was being investigated for espionage by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation. Australian employees were reported to have expressed concern about Chinese nationals with links to the People’s Liberation Army being hired as technicians. Huawei has denied the claims. Huawei hopes to be a supplier for the national broadband network project. In China, it should also benefit from wireless tenders worth $60 billion. In Europe, it teamed up with T-Mobile to produce the T-Mobile Pulse, the first Android-powered handset similar to the iPhone. Darren Greenwood
