InternetNZ appoints former policy head as interim CEO

Carter will lead the organisation during the recruitment of a new CEO, after former CEO Vikram Kumar resigned earlier this month.

Carter was a previous deputy executive director and policy director at InternetNZ. He left the role in 2011, but has continued to work for the organisation as a contracted policy advisor.

Carter has twice unsuccessfully stood for Parliament - in the 2011 election he was placed 40 on the Labour party’s list and in the 2008 election he was a candidate in the Hunua electorate.

InternetNZ president Frank March says during his time as acting chief executive, Carter will cease his involvement in both the Labour Party and the New Zealand Fabian Society.

"It is important to the Council and to me that InternetNZ remains politically neutral and non-partisan,” says March.

"The Council will be moving quickly to recruit a permanent replacement chief executive. Jordan Carter's role is to lead the operating team in between Vikram Kumar's departure and the handover to a new permanent appointee, and to continue the development and implementation of InternetNZ's strategy, operations and work plan.”

Policy Lead Susan Chalmers will remain as InternetNZ's main spokesperson.

Carter starts as acting CEO on Monday.
