Unitec (MIS100 2012)

Unitec Institute of Technology is a provider of vocational and applied professional education and practical-orientated research, based across three Auckland campuses in Mt Albert, Waitakere and Albany.

A comprehensive wireless environment is key in supporting student learning initiatives and vital to the always on, ‘bring your own device’ nature of higher education campuses today.

A major ERP re-implementation was completed last year, taking Unitec’s PeopleSoft from v7.6 to v9. Unitec uses PeopleSoft for its CRM and financial software needs, as well as HR, payrolls and student administration.

Work will continue over 2012 in the areas of ERP, business continuity/disaster recovery, VoIP, wireless and virtualisation. Social media investments and interaction will carry on over the course of the year.

As an example, the educational provider has recently used YouTube to promote a free, interactive online course aimed at students preparing for the admissions tests to public universities.

After entering the site and completing the tests, students were contacted by Unitec via a structured email marketing campaign, requesting permission to added to a mailing list promoting Unitec as the best option toward obtaining a university degree.

IT’s main focus in 2012 will be on ERP patching, ongoing virtualisation projects, further VoIP deployments and DRP upgrades.
