After growth in ICT budgets, projects and staff numbers for two years in a row, all have leveled off for 2012.

Much work was done in 2011 with upgrades to the university’s in-house student management system, data networking, storage and server environments.

Significant projects planned for 2012, include the selection of a replacement package student management system, completion of the network replacement project, with HP equipment replacing Cisco Networks equipment. Massey will also rollout the Microsoft Lync unified communications solution as a replacement of aging Nortel and existing Cisco VoIP solutions, complete the Albany Rittal ‘container’ based disaster recovery facility at Massey’s Albany campus, and further commission the video linked teaching suites between the Manawatu and Albany campuses. This year will also see the delivery of intranet and team sites for collaboration over SharePoint and the first stage of a roll-out of enterprise reporting/business intelligence data structures and toolsets.

“It will transform communications and workplace collaboration, drive value through information management, enable new video linked distance teaching methods, support a move to digitally signed workflow, and improve the customer service experience,” says CIO Clive Martis.
