Farmers Trading Company (MIS100 2012)Ranking: 64, 2011 ranking: 45
Address: 21 Laidlaw, East Tamaki, Aucklan
The Farmers Trading Company operates 65 stores and employs more than 4000 people across New Zealand. In mid-2011, the company rolled out a CEM AC2000 SE security management system to its fashion department stores. To secure and protect its stores, Farmers required an IP security management system that could be installed at remote sites, with maximum efficiency to minimise the requirement for cabling and power supplies.
The flexible solution was designed to support multiple reader types based on the level of security required at each controlled door. To meet this requirement a selection of CEM S610e IP card readers and CEM Power over Ethernet Plus two-door controllers were installed by Vitag.
Card readers were also installed on critical doors throughout Farmers department stores. The readers feature LCD screens to provide staff with instant feedback on the system. Should communication be temporarily lost with the host server, an internal database kicks in for offline card validation stored in the reader’s internal memory.
As a heavy user of SAP, Farmers spent much of last year implementing SAP expansions to its Stevens Homewares and Farmers stores. However in 2010, the retailer was the first New Zealand user to switch its implementation of SAP applications to IBM DB2 from its current database, as it offered a better compensation rate than the previously used database.
