The difference between the two? “Analytics is any data driven process that generates insight,” says Stubbs, author of Delivering Business Analytics: Practical Guidelines for Best Practice. “Business analytics is using that information to drive some sort of positive outcome.”

“Insight is important but it is not sufficient to generate value,” he adds. “It is about taking that insight and actually deriving value out of it by making sure it is acted on.”
He says taking this perspective is critical as the amount of information organisations deal with keeps growing “astronomically”.
